Malika’s Bio

Malika Harricharan describes herself as a northern transplant with Indian heritage. She was born in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India, but only lived there for a couple months before being adopted by two wonderful, loving people. Had they not adopted her, she would have surely perished from the terrible living conditions in the orphanage where she was.

While in the orphanage, Malika was malnourished and mistreated to the point that when my adoptive parents came to get her, those managing the orphanage told them, “this baby will mostly likely die; you should choose another.” Determination led them to take their chances with her, literally smuggling her on a plane back to the United States. It was an incredible journey and they beat incredible odds, but that’s another story….

Malika was fortunate enough to grow up in an affluent part of New Jersey and experienced the excitement of traveling to New York City on a regular basis. In 1985, after his business collapsed, her father moved their family to Atlanta. Her family was excited to begin a new life here, but joy quickly turned to sadness as her mother was diagnosed with cancer. She passed away 3 years later before even reaching her 40th birthday. But Malika credits her father for doing an excellent job of raising her and her brother by himself.

With a background in Marketing, Malika has worked in Market Research, Product Development and Social Media / Web 2.0 for varied industries including transit, manufacturing, and Consumer Packaged Goods. Her true passion continues to be Social Media Marketing and she works for various clients in Atlanta, creating and managing Blogs, Websites, Facebook, Twitter,  HYPERLINK “http://blueskyvirtualassistants.com/?page_id=138″ Videos and Email Newsletters among other Internet Marketing efforts.

Malika loves trying new foods and is quite an adventurous eater. Some of the most exotic foods she’s ever tried were Ostrich, Turtle and Alpaca. The Ostrich, was found at a local Atlanta restaurant, the turtle was while on a trip in the Cayman Islands in a soup. And the Alpaca was tasted while visiting Peru.

In Atlanta, Malika consistently seeks out hidden gems, and writes about them on her blog,  HYPERLINK “http://Atlanta-RestaurantBlog.com” Atlanta Restaurant Blog. While Malika enjoys dining at fancy restaurants she believes that an exceptional meal can also be found at a hole in the wall just as easy as in a swanky building. You just have to seek these places out.  HYPERLINK “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdgmiRMqg5I” Check her out on YouTube.

Malika’s other passions besides eating out and discovering hidden gems are travel and tackling home improvement projects. A couple years ago, Malika bought her first home, and while she was thrilled about it, she knew right away she’d be immersed in one home improvement project after another, adding her personal touch on her home.

Exotic travel is especially a hobby of hers, as she claims she wants to see the whole world. “There are so many great experiences and so much we can all learn from different cultures,” Malika says. Her most recent trip was to Peru where she immersed herself in the culture and architecture from Lima and Cusco, to Machu Picchu and the Amazon. Next on her travel wish list is seeing Southeast Asia. Of course, Malika always finds a way to seek out the hidden foodie gems while traveling too!
